John Robbins condemned to be hung for striking a Boatswain's Mate, Portsmouth Harbour,1801 Punishment was severe back in the 1800's. This article is from The Naval Journal section of the Portsmouth Telegraph, 1801. A Court Martial was held on February 7th, 1801 on board the Gladiator, in Portsmouth Harbour, on John Robbins, belonging to the Warrior, for striking a Boatswain's Mate.
The charge being proved, he was condemned to be hung.
